Daniel Behle

Oliver Schnyder Trio

The renowned tenor poet Daniel Behle arranges 23 of his favourite melodies at Christmas time for small ensemble. In this way he creates sophisticated and entertaining house music and lets the traditional German Christmas carols sound in a chamber music version. Daniel Behle is "that lyrical tenor who is probably unrivalled in his generation as a poet[...]: perfect technique, beautiful sound, no pushers, language awareness instead of mannerisms" (WAZ, 8.6.2017). The "renowned Mozart interpreter" (OperaLounge 6.6.2017), inspired by Christmas evenings with his children, during which he reads a Christmas story to them, has rearranged 23 of his favourite traditional Christmas carols and put together a colourful, musical Christmas story. In almost a year of preparation, he developed a Christmas programme with many musical surprises and, together with his outstanding fellow musicians - the Oliver Schnyder Trio, supplemented by guitar, accordion and percussion - he entertains and ennobles well-known Christmas classics so that not only his children but also his adult listeners will be thrilled. The melodies from "Alle Jahre wieder" and "Vom Himmel hoch" to "Tochter Zion" and "O Du Fröhliche" to "Morgen Kinder wird's was geben" and "O Tannenbaum" sound in a new sound bed and chamber music style. In keeping with Richard Wagner's motto "Children, create something new", "Kling Glöckchen Kling", for example, begins with the chimes of London's Big Ben and the Nokia ringtone, Santa Claus rushes at a gallop to buy presents in the merry month of May in "Der Weihnachtsmann hat einen Sack" and the Christmas classic "Last Christmas" resounds in the distance in "Morgen kommt der Weihnachtsmann". "The motto of the holy time over the last decades seems to have become too loud and big. The musical event displaces the quiet and small" says Behle. "Together with a very special 6-piece instrumentation, I would like to revive the spirit of Christmas home music and celebrate our feast of festivities in my own critical, laughing and truthful way" Daniel Behle is not only one of the best singers in his field, known as a masterful Mozart interpreter and at home on the great stages - from Covent Garden to the Bayreuth Festival to the Saxon Staatskapelle Dresden, the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonics - but he is also a trained composer! When he cannot spend his free time with his children and family, he writes new music for guest performances. This is also how "My most beautiful Christmas carols" came about.
